Troitske Village of Popasna District, Luhansk, was on a regular line of fire during the battle for Debaltseve, so it experienced almost non-stop attacks and several assaults involving tanks of Russian regular troops and militants.

It was reported by Luhansk Regional State Administration website.

“From the beginning of February,Troitske village was mercilessly fired by Grads and artillery, there are lots of destroyed residential buildings and many dead among the civilians,” says Gennadiy Moskal. “In addition, gunmen destroyed the stone Orthodox church built in 1840. Around the church there is a row of shell craters and some shells hit the building, broke through the roof and exploded inside. The altar is completely destroyed, icons are split into fragments, holy books are scattered on the floor ... This is one of the largest Orthodox churches in Luhansk, which survived two wars – the Civil War and World War II and the Soviet regime.”

According to him, “neither the German invaders nor communist atheists could destroy the temple, now it is destroyed by those who call themselves ‘champions’ of the Orthodox world.”

“There is no sense to fire the church and school, no Ukrainian military servicemen deployed there. The nearest reference point is in the outskirts of Troitske, three kilometers from here ...” he adds.
