The Russian prosecutor has sentenced 12 years of imprisonment for the Crimean religious figure Vadim Bektemirov.

The Crimean human rights group was reported about it.

"In the Southern District Military Court, the public prosecutor sentenced 12-year-old prisoner Vadim Bektemirov to 12 years in a maximum security penal colony," the statement said.

It is noted that a debate in this "case" will take place on February 10.

What is known:

  • Bektemirov is accused of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization (Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code).
  • He was arrested on July 7, 2020 during mass searches in the Crimea. He is being held in the Rostov-on-Don pre-trial detention center. On May 26, 2021, the Bektemirov case, in which he is the sole defendant, began to be heard in the Southern District Military Court.
